Park Point Batch

We have been commissioned by to design a new house / bach at Park Point on Waiheke Island. The building will overlook Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf on a gently sloping site surrounded by native Bush.

The brief given by the client was to create a building that lay somewhere between a bach and a home, somewhere where they could go to live a bit simpler. The building has a uncomplicated linear plan that allows for a functional organisation of rooms which take advantage of the expansive coastal views.

The concept of a ‘slice’ has been used to pull the garage away from the main house leaving a negative space which creates the outdoor living and dining space. A textural pallet of materials has been used, the building will be largely constructed of profiled precast concrete panels allowing the building to be built quickly and reducing the labour time on site. The concrete has been contrasted with a soft stained timber batten which will mirror the profile of the precast.

Construction is due to start on site in the new year with completion towards the end of July.
