Westhaven Marine Village

Clustered together, the rhythmic repeating roof forms conjure up nautical notions of yachts’ sails when boats are clustered together at the start of a race in the inner harbour or, perhaps a long line of cresting waves lapping at the shore. The external materials compliment this local history and were selected to respond to the need for robust durable materials that can withstand the tough marine environment and weather conditions on this specific site. While the interior exposes the new steel work to retain the industrial aesthetic and allow the tenants to leave both services and fitout elements exposed for an easy and quick fitout. The building is in two blocks, each with dual access, the primary interaction between the building and the public is the eastern glazing which activates the edge and the wide new promenade that replaces a narrow concrete footpath with links at several points to the existing boardwalk. The building also opens to the street and carparks at the west, north and south. The height of the overhangs is such that there is a human scale and level of intimacy as you interact with the edge of the building, walking alongside it.
