Otahuhu Recreation Centre

AUCKLAND | 2006

This concept responds to feedback from the community to incorporate elements that reflect the diversity of Otahuhu's community and sense of place. A major element of the design is the curved roof which is symbolic of an upturned waka or banana leaf. The roof reflects the cultural perspectives, supported by poles, symbolising fishing poles standing up against the building and also suggests the timber tectonic that harks back to pre European notions of settlement.
